Here's an all-star group of authors. Paul, Silas and Timothy are behind this letter! We had better listen up!

The people receiving this letter are the real deal. They embraced the Word quickly. They receive severe suffering because of it. The Holy Spirit was definitely on the scene with them. They are an example to others ... an inspiration, really.

Here's a key for this life they are now living: they are eager for the coming of Jesus. Did it happen? Nope. Not yet - even 2 thousand years later. But they lived as if it were going to happen any day. Here's my thinking> we've forgotten that it's possible. We talk about Jesus' return as something that will happen way after we are dead and gone. We don't live with:
1) a sense of urgency
2) a sense of anticipation
3) a fear of judgement
